Axel Springer buys Telegraph Media Group for £575m, expanding its European portfolio, on Friday, in London, to increase its global reach.

Axel Springer, a German media giant, is acquiring Telegraph Media Group in a £575m deal. The purchase includes the Daily and Sunday Telegraph print titles and their online business.

The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Axel Springer’s European portfolio. The company already owns several European publications, including Bild and Die Welt in Germany.

Telegraph Media Group’s print and online titles will come under overseas ownership. Analysts said the deal reflects the growing trend of consolidation in the media industry.

A senior official at Axel Springer said the company is committed to maintaining the Telegraph’s editorial independence. “We respect the Telegraph’s heritage and will ensure its continued success,” the official said.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval. If approved, Axel Springer will become one of the largest media companies in Europe, with a significant presence in the UK market.

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of the year, pending regulatory clearance, and Axel Springer will then begin integrating Telegraph Media Group into its operations, analysts expect the company to announce its plans for the Telegraph’s future next quarter.
