Novak Djokovic claimed an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open on Sunday, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set final that lasted more than four hours and left the Melbourne crowd on its feet.

The Serbian legend, now 37, won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in what many courtside observers described as one of the finest matches in the tournament’s history. Djokovic saved two match points in the third set before eventually wrestling control.

“I feel like I’m dreaming,” Djokovic said in his on-court speech, visibly emotional. “Every year people say this is my last chance and every year I find a way. I don’t know how, but I do.”

Alcaraz, 21, was gracious in defeat, telling reporters the match was “the best I have ever played on a Grand Slam court and it still was not enough. That tells you everything about him.”

The victory extends Djokovic’s lead in the all-time men’s Grand Slam rankings, widening his gap over Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to four titles.
