Real Madrid claimed their record-extending 16th UEFA Champions League title on Saturday night, defeating Manchester City 3-1 in the final held at the Allianz Arena in Munich in front of a crowd of 75,000 spectators.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice — in the 23rd and 68th minutes — while Vinicius Jr. added a third in stoppage time to seal the victory. Erling Haaland pulled one back for City in the 81st minute but it proved a consolation.

“This club never dies,” said Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti in his post-match press conference. “When it matters most, these players always find a way.”

Mbappe’s brace capped a remarkable debut European final for the French superstar, who joined Real Madrid last summer. He was named Man of the Match and is now the frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or.

For Manchester City, the defeat extends their wait for a second Champions League crown. Manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged his side were “second best on the night” and refused to make excuses.
