The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency session on Monday as military tensions along the eastern European border escalated for the third consecutive week, with member nations calling for immediate diplomatic dialogue.

Diplomats from 15 member states gathered in New York to assess the situation after satellite imagery revealed unusual troop movements near the disputed region. The session, requested by France and Germany, drew sharp responses from both sides of the conflict.

“The situation demands restraint and a return to the negotiating table,” said the UN Secretary-General in a brief statement before the closed-door meeting. “Military escalation serves no party’s long-term interest.”

Western nations have threatened additional economic sanctions if aggressive posturing continues, while regional representatives insisted their actions were purely defensive in nature.

The council is expected to vote on a resolution calling for a 30-day ceasefire by Thursday. Analysts say passage remains uncertain given existing divisions among permanent members.
